Trump Announces Plan to Build Detention Camps for Illegal Immigrants if Re-Elected

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has said that if he wins a second term in the White House, he will build detention camps on US soil for illegal immigrants. The announcement was made in an interview with Time magazine.

The question for Trump was whether he would build new detention camps as part of his campaign promise to deport the nation’s largest population of illegal immigrants. “I will not rule anything out,” Trump said. “But there will be no need for them,” he said, because the plan is to send illegal immigrants back to their countries as soon as possible.

Illegal border crossings between the United States and Mexico have been a focus of Trump’s campaign against President Joe Biden, a Democrat who is running for a second four-year term. Immigration is a big issue for voters, according to national opinion polls.

Trump said he would use National Guard troops to help with planned deportation efforts, but did not rule out using active duty military forces to help.

“I don’t think I’ll have to do it. I think the National Guard can do it. If they can’t, I’ll use the army,” he said.

Trump was asked about the Pos Comitatus Act of 1878, a post-Civil War law that prohibited the use of the military against civilians.

“Well, these are not normal people. These are people who are not in our country legally. This is an attack on our country,” said Trump. If elected in November, Trump said of Ukraine, “I will try to help Ukraine, but Europe has to go in there and do their job.”

Trump has been unclear about whether he would continue to send military aid to Ukraine in the war against Russia if he became president. Trump said a two-state solution between Israel and the Palestinians – the cornerstone of US foreign policy in the Middle East – may no longer be possible.

“I’m not sure a two-state solution is going to work anymore,” Trump said. Hostility between Israelis and Palestinians is now so intense that it makes a two-state solution “very, very difficult.” Trump also said he would not be happy to appoint anyone to the new administration who believes Biden won the 2020 election.
