À compter de maintenant, il y a un CESSEZ-LE-FEU ÉNERGÉTIQUE dans la guerre entre la Russie et l’Ukraine. Les deux parties se sont mises d’accord. Ne le rompez pas!
Donald Trump wrote on Truth Social, announcing an immediate energy truce, even as Ukrainian officials reported ongoing missile strikes on critical infrastructure across Kyiv and Kharkiv.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed to Axios that he had no prior knowledge of any such agreement. While French President Emmanuel Macron stated that France supports an energy truce, he noted that Russia continues to reject it by intensifying bombardments.
Trump Announces Truce While Strikes Hit Kyiv
Donald Trump posted his ceasefire order on Truth Social without providing operational details, demanding that both Moscow and Kyiv adhere to the halt immediately. The announcement arrived against the backdrop of an unfolding U.S.-Russia diesel trade agreement aimed at lowering domestic fuel prices ahead of U.S. legislative elections. The fuel pact followed rising gasoline costs linked to the conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran.

Despite the presidential proclamation, Ukrainian authorities confirmed that attacks persisted without a pause. Russian missiles struck an electrical power plant in Kyiv and energy facilities in the Kharkiv region after Trump’s statement. Regional governor Oleg Synegoubov reported that three people were killed in Kharkiv strikes, while national grid operator Ukrenergo warned of widespread power outages and electricity restrictions.
Zelensky Demands Details Amid Leadership Clash
President Zelensky stated during his daily address that Ukraine awaits clear details regarding any dialogue between Washington and Moscow. L’annonce de ce cessez-le-feu était une nouvelle pour moi,
Zelensky told Axios, adding that Ukraine remains prepared to accept the arrangement if Russia reciprocates. British Prime Minister Andy Burnham and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney both expressed support for Trump’s call for a durable energy truce.
Trump warned Ukrainian leadership over strikes on Russian oil refineries and suggested Ukrainians should consider choosing a new leader capable of negotiating peace. Zelensky responded in an ABC interview broadcast that the Ukrainian people alone decide their leadership. The exchange echoed tensions from a previous meeting between the two leaders at the White House in February 2025.
Power Restrictions and Elections Remain Disputed
Energy infrastructure damage forced Ukrenergo to implement sweeping power restrictions across multiple regions. Residents in Kyiv faced extensive blackouts throughout the day as repair crews assessed the damage to generation facilities. Meanwhile, public reaction in Ukraine remained defiant against external pressure regarding governance and territorial defense, with local citizens emphasizing self-determination under martial law.
Regarding U.S. and Russian calls for elections in Ukraine, Zelensky reiterated that a prolonged pause in hostilities is a necessary precondition. Dites à Poutine de nous accorder deux mois, soixante jours de cessez-le-feu total, soixante jours, et nous organiserons les élections,
Zelensky told ABC. Moscow has consistently rejected similar proposals, arguing that a prolonged halt would allow Ukrainian forces to regroup.
Nous, Ukrainiens, décidons de notre destinée et de notre liberté. Nous sommes un peuple libre et nous avons élu ce président.
