Trump confidant now wants to become spokesman

The US House of Representatives is still without a speaker. After two defeats, Jim Jordan actually wanted to give up his candidacy. Now he decided differently.

The US Republican Jim Jordan is apparently making a U-turn and now apparently wants to take part in a third vote for Speaker of the House of Representatives. This is reported by the “New York Times”.

Just hours earlier, Jordan said he had decided against a third attempt to become speaker of the House of Representatives. The Republican previously encountered tough resistance from within his own ranks.

Instead, he wanted to support Jordan Patrick McHenry – the current executive chairman. McHenry’s real primary job is to run the election for speaker. The Republican would then be given more powers and remain in office until January 3rd.

That could have at least temporarily broken the current deadlock in the House of Representatives. This would also make new aid possible for Israel.

Biden wants to ask the House of Representatives for help for Israel

US President Joe Biden announced during his visit to Israel on Wednesday that he would ask Congress for new aid for the country during the week. He wants to give a speech on Thursday evening in the White House on the Middle East conflict and the Russian war against Ukraine. It is expected that Biden will ask Congress for 100 billion US dollars (around 95 billion euros) for Israel, Ukraine, Taiwan and the protection of the US border.

As long as the intra-party dispute continues, the House of Representatives will remain without “Mr. Speaker” – even as war rages in the Middle East and Ukraine. This means, among other things, that Congress cannot provide any further military aid to Israel and Ukraine. The USA is also threatened with a so-called shutdown in mid-November without a solution to the budget dispute – then federal authorities will no longer be able to spend any money from one day to the next.
