Trump Discusses Increased Trade with China, Potential April Visit
– President Donald Trump spoke with Chinese President Xi Jinping today, discussing potential increases in the purchase of U.S. Energy products and agricultural goods, as well as the possibility of acquiring additional agricultural products. He also mentioned discussing deliveries of aircraft engines, according to a post on Truth Social.
“We discussed many topics including…Soybeans and other Farm Products, etc. We have done a good, and very important, deal for our Great Farmers — and it will only get better,” President Trump wrote. He added that his relationship with China, and with President Xi personally, is “extremely good” and that both leaders “understand how important it is to continue this way.”
The conversation builds on a trade deal reached in November 2025, where President Trump and President Xi Jinping met in the Republic of Korea. That agreement, described as a “massive victory” by the White House, included commitments from China to halt the flow of precursors used to make fentanyl into the United States, effectively eliminate export controls on rare earth elements and critical minerals, and end retaliation against U.S. Semiconductor manufacturers.
China also agreed to open its market to U.S. Soybeans and other agricultural exports as part of the November deal. Specifically, China suspended the global implementation of export controls on rare earths, gallium, germanium, antimony, and graphite, issuing general licenses for U.S. End users and suppliers. The agreement also included a commitment from China to take measures to end the flow of fentanyl to the United States by stopping shipments of designated chemicals and strictly controlling exports of others.
China suspended retaliatory tariffs announced since March 4, 2025, on a range of U.S. Agricultural products including chicken, wheat, corn, cotton, sorghum, soybeans, pork, beef, aquatic products, fruits, vegetables, and dairy products.
The November agreement followed a meeting between the two leaders in Busan, South Korea on October 30, 2025, which President Trump described as “amazing.” Following that meeting, the U.S. Halved a 20% tariff previously imposed to curb fentanyl flows. However, the average tariff on Chinese goods cumulatively remains just below 50%.
According to a statement from China’s state news agency following a phone call on November 24, 2025, both countries should “keep up the momentum” and “lengthen the list of cooperation and shorten the list of problems.”
President Trump indicated his intention to travel to China in April, stating, “I look forward to going to China in April.” He expressed optimism about achieving further positive results during his presidency with President Xi and China over the next three years.
The recent positive trajectory in the China-U.S. Relationship has been welcomed by both countries and the broader international community, according to the Chinese statement from November 24th.
