Trump Unveils “Great Healthcare Plan” Focused on Drug Prices
President Donald Trump on thursday, September 26, 2025, announced the outline of a healthcare plan intended to lower prescription drug prices and insurance premiums. The announcement followed increasing uncertainty surrounding a congressional effort to extend Affordable Care Act tax credits, which could lead to premium increases for millions of Americans.
Trump formally introduced the initiative, dubbed ”The Great Healthcare Plan,” in a video released Thursday morning. “I’m calling on Congress to pass this framework into law without delay,” he stated.
The plan centers on formalizing recent agreements with pharmaceutical companies to reduce drug costs by aligning U.S. prices with those in other countries, building on Trump’s “most-favored-nation” policy implemented in May 2025.
More than a dozen pharmaceutical companies have agreed to lower prices on specific drugs for medicaid recipients in exchange for a three-year exemption from tariffs. These companies have also committed to offering discounted medications through Trump’s direct-to-consumer platform, Trump Rx.
According to the White House, the reduced drug prices will become available on the Trump Rx platform upon its launch.
