Trump: “I Will Make America the Cryptocurrency Capital”
Former President Donald Trump
Former US President Donald Trump, the Republican presidential candidate, has declared that he will make the United States the cryptocurrency capital.
According to Bloomberg, former President Trump said in a video posted on his X account on the 29th (local time), “This afternoon, I will be announcing a plan to make the United States the cryptocurrency capital of the world.”
He also said, “They want to choke you out on business,” and “We won’t let that happen.”
However, Trump did not specify what he meant by “they.”
The post was tagged with the account of World Liberty Financial, a decentralized finance project promoted by former President Trump’s sons, Trump Jr. and Eric.
According to CNBC, World Liberty Financial is the Trump Organization’s new cryptocurrency platform, which was originally named “The Defiant Ones.”
The website describes it as “a cutting-edge decentralized finance platform that connects users with the best tools for safe, high-yield cryptocurrency investments,” but Bloomberg notes that the structure of the project is unclear.
Decentralized finance aims to eliminate intermediaries like banks and other middlemen using software-based applications, and its supporters see it as a means to democratize finance.
Former President Trump was critical of cryptocurrencies during his presidency, calling them “criminal scams,” but has been showing a more friendly attitude since running for reelection.
