Iran-Israel Conflict Escalates After Deadly Strikes
Tensions in West Asia are soaring after a series of deadly Israeli aerial attacks on Iran. Teh operation, dubbed “Rising lion” by Israel, resulted in over 224 Iranian deaths, including civilians, scientists, and members of the Islamic revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). Backed by Russia,Tehran retaliated with missile strikes targeting Israeli military installations, warning that this was just the beginning.
Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei,in a televised address, stated that engaging in war with Iran is “playing with the lion’s tail,” emphasizing the issue extends beyond missiles to national sovereignty.
Several Arab nations have condemned Israel’s attacks, echoing Tehran’s calls for regional unity.
More than 1,200 people have been injured, and over 330,000 evacuated from central Tehran amid ongoing attacks. Iran’s Foreign Ministry denounced the Israeli bombardment as a violation of international law, accusing Israel of “engaging in terror” before a passive global audience.
Reports indicate that civilian infrastructure, including telecom centers and residential areas in Tehran, Shiraz, and Isfahan, were deliberately targeted. Iranian officials have labeled the use of U.S.-manufactured guided munitions in these attacks as a war crime.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov criticized what he called growing Western complicity in Israel’s escalation against Iran. He cautioned that these unilateral strikes risk expanding into a broader regional conflict and stressed the need for inclusive negotiations.
russia also criticized the U.S. for blocking UN efforts to de-escalate the crisis, calling it politically short-sighted. Moscow reiterated its readiness to mediate between Tehran and regional capitals to prevent a full-scale war.
Iranian Retaliation and Drone Swarms Hit Israel
Within 48 hours, Iran launched Operation True Promise III, a coordinated counterattack using precision-guided missiles and drones against Israeli military facilities.Missile fragments struck near the U.S. Embassy in Tel Aviv, causing minor damage, and disrupted operations at Ben Gurion Airport.
While Israel’s Iron Dome intercepted most incoming projectiles, the strikes resulted in at least 24 Israeli deaths and nearly 600 injuries, with notable damage reported in petah Tikva, Haifa, Bnei Brak, and Bat Yam. Military installations in central Israel sustained hits.
Iranian state media asserted that the operation deliberately targeted military infrastructure, including the military intelligence centre of the “Zionist regime’s army, Aman, and the Mossad headquarters” in Tel Aviv, while avoiding civilian areas.
Trump Issues Assassination Threat
Amid the escalating conflict, former U.S. President Donald Trump, attending the G7 summit, issued aggressive warnings.
“The U.S. knows where Khamenei is. We could hit him. We’re not doing it—yet,” Trump said, referring to Iran’s Supreme Leader. His comments drew widespread condemnation as incitement to assassination, with Iran’s UN envoy calling them a “criminal threat.”

Trump’s presence at the summit and subsequent departure to brief Republican allies drew criticism from European delegates. A leaked German foreign office memo described Trump’s behavior as “reckless and destabilizing.”
Russia and China Back Iran
During an emergency UN Security Council session, the U.S. vetoed a resolution co-sponsored by Russia and Algeria that condemned Israeli airstrikes and called for a ceasefire.
Russia’s UN Ambassador Vasily Nebenzya called the veto a betrayal, stating that Israel’s actions violate the UN Charter and warning of a potential nuclear catastrophe.

Iran’s UN Ambassador Amir Saeid Iravani accused the U.S.of enabling Israeli aggression, stating the strikes were self-defence. China’s UN envoy Fu Cong echoed Russia’s concerns, urging restraint and warning that outside interference could worsen the conflict.
Following the Israeli strikes, Trump posted on social media calling for the “immediate evacuation of Tehran,” prompting speculation of further military action. While no official evacuation was announced, tensions rose in Tehran, with civil defense sirens sounding and some residents leaving the city. Iran’s Interior Minister Ahmad Vahidi attributed mobile network disruptions to suspected Israeli cyber intrusions.
