President Donald Trump defended his decision to deploy the National Guard to Los Angeles to quell protests related to immigration, asserting that the city would have been “fully obliterated” without federal intervention. The president stated he directed defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Attorney General Pam Bondi to coordinate with agencies to “liberate Los Angeles from the Migrant Invasion” and end the “Migrant riots.”

Though, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass and California Gov. Gavin Newsom have criticized Trump, accusing him of exaggerating the extent of the violence. Newsom said Trump “flamed the fires and illegally acted” by mobilizing the National Guard without state consent, adding that California is suing the president over the deployment.
