Johnson Calls for Trump and Musk to reconcile After Feud
House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-la., expressed hope Friday that former President Donald Trump and Elon Musk can “reconcile” following a public disagreement over the Republican budget reconciliation bill.
johnson told reporters he was with Trump when the former president learned of Musk’s opposition. “He was disappointed, and I was surprised by Elon’s sudden opposition,” Johnson said.
“I believe in redemption,” Johnson added, suggesting it would benefit both the Republican Party and the country if the matter were resolved.
While not directly naming Musk, Johnson appeared to caution him against criticizing Trump. “Do not doubt, do not second guess, and don’t ever challenge the President of the United States, donald Trump,” Johnson stated. “He is the leader of the party…and he’s doing an excellent job.”
Johnson acknowledged exchanging texts with Musk but declined to discuss their content. he downplayed the impact of Musk’s criticism, asserting that Republicans remain committed to passing the budget legislation.
The White House, via press secretary karoline Leavitt, stated that Trump remains focused on “making our country great again and passing the One Big Lovely Bill.”
Trump, in a separate interview, dismissed any interest in speaking with Musk and brushed aside Musk’s threat to form a third political party, saying, “Elon’s totally lost it.”
