Trump Considers Military Role Against Iran; Khamenei Warns of Retaliation

President Donald Trump is weighing potential U.S. military action against Iran, a move that has drawn a sharp warning from Tehran. Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said any U.S. strike would be met with a strong response.
“I may do it,I may not do it,” Trump told reporters at the White House,adding,”Nobody knows what I’m going to do.” He also stated it wasn’t “too late” for Iran to abandon its nuclear program as the U.S.considers involvement in Israel’s operations.
Trump responded tersely to Khamenei’s rejection of unconditional surrender, saying, “I say good luck.” Khamenei had earlier stated that any U.S. attacks would “result in irreparable damage for them” and that Iran would not surrender.
The U.S.president claimed the U.S. knows Khamenei’s location but does not intend to kill him “for now.”
Trump said Iranian officials are seeking contact with the White House, claiming they are ”getting the hell beaten out of them” by Israel. He noted a “big difference between now and a week ago” in Iran’s negotiating position and characterized their alleged willingness to come to the White House as “courageous.”
However, Iran’s mission to the United Nations refuted Trump’s claim in a social media statement: “No Iranian official has ever asked to grovel at the gates of the White House. The only thing more despicable than his lies is his timid threat to ‘take out’ Iran’s Supreme Leader.”
Trump also mentioned that Russian President Vladimir Putin offered to mediate, but he advised Putin to focus on resolving the conflict with Ukraine first. “I said, ‘Do me a favour, mediate your own’,” Trump stated.
