Trump on Ukraine War: Putin’s Actions Could Lead to Russia’s Downfall
Updated May 26, 2025
Former President Donald Trump has weighed in on the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, following a massive Russian air assault over the weekend.Speaking to reporters in New Jersey, Trump stated that Russia’s President Vladimir Putin is ”killing a lot of people.” The attacks, which involved more than 600 drones and dozens of missiles, targeted cities including Kyiv, resulting in at least 12 deaths, including three children, and 79 injuries.
Trump acknowledged a long history with Putin, but expressed dismay at the recent escalation. “I don’t know what the hell happened to Putin, I’ve known him for a long time…” he said. Despite previously advocating for a ceasefire and holding a recent two-hour phone call with Putin, Trump indicated that new sanctions on Moscow could be considered.
The Russian offensive struck Kyiv and multiple regions, including Zhytomyr, Khmelnytsky, Ternopil, Dnipropetrovsk, Mykolaiv, Odesa, Kharkiv, Chernihiv, Cherkasy, Sumy, and Poltava, damaging over 80 residential buildings.
In a Truth Social post, Trump warned that Putin has gone “absolutely” crazy and that his pursuit of all of Ukraine could trigger Russia’s collapse.”I’ve always said that he wants ALL of Ukraine, not just a piece of it,and maybe that’s proving to be right, but if he does,it will lead to the downfall of Russia!” he wrote.
Trump also criticized Ukrainian President volodymyr Zelensky, who had condemned the lack of response from the U.S. and other nations to the attacks and called for stronger sanctions. Trump responded, “Likewise, President Zelensky is doing his Country no favors by talking the way he does. Everything out of his mouth causes problems, I don’t like it, and it better stop.”
Earlier,Keith Kellogg,Trump’s special envoy for Ukraine, condemned the attacks. “The indiscriminate killing of women and children at night in thier homes is a clear violation of the 1977 geneva Peace Protocols designed to protect innocents. These attacks are shameful,” Kellogg stated on X.He urged an immediate ceasefire.
