Trump Opens War in America: Shootings and Protests
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Unrest between the Minnesota state government and United States federal authorities escalated after a US immigration agent shot dead a civilian during a law enforcement operation in Minneapolis. The incident that killed Renee Nicole Good, a 37-year-old mother of three, sparked a wave of widespread protests as well as sharp differences in versions of events between state and federal government officials.
The shooting occured in a residential area of Minneapolis and involved an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent whose identity has not been released. Good is known to be a citizen of the United States. This incident promptly drew condemnation from local officials and sparked demonstrations in Minnesota and other large cities in the US.
The controversy widened when the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) announced on Thursday (8/1/2026) that it was withdrawing from investigating the case. BCA previously agreed with the FBI to carry out a joint investigation, but according to BCA Head Drew Evans, the FBI unilaterally changed it’s decision and took over the investigation completely.
Evans said this decision meant that BCA no longer had access to evidence at the scene, case documents, or the witness interview process.
“As a result, BCA reluctantly withdrew from the investigation,” said Evans, as reported Reuters.
Minnesota Attorney General keith ellison called the FBI’s move “extremely concerning.”
In an interview with CNNEllison emphasized that state authorities can still conduct investigations, with or without the federal government’s cooperation. He added that the evidence he has seen, including some that has not been made public, leaves open the possibility of criminal charges at the state level.
Simultaneously occurring, US Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem rejected the notion that states were being excluded from the legal process. He stated that BCA did not have jurisdiction in the case.

Minnesota’s Democratic governor, Tim Walz, warned that a federal investigation without state involvement risked being seen as an attempt to “wash his hands.”
“I say this because people in positions of power, from the president to the vice president to Kristi noem, have already passed judgment and said things that are patently untrue,” Walz said at a press conference.
The FBI refused to comment regarding BCA’s statement.
Meanwhile, the ICE agent who shot Good was among some 2,000 federal officers that President Donald trump’s administration deployed to the Minneapolis area. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) called the operation “the largest operation DHS has ever undertaken.”
DHS officials, including Noem, defended the agency’s actions, saying the shooting occurred in self-defense. The federal government even accused Good of trying to run over officers and called his actions a form of ”domestic terrorism.”
however, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey firmly denied that narrative.
Frey called the federal government’s claims “nonsense” and “trash,” referring to video reco
