Donald Trump signed a presidential order making tax-free diesel available to all voters during a campaign rally in Grand Island, Nebraska, after bringing personal assistant Natalie Harp onto the stage, Dagbladet reported. The president told the crowd he would accomplish what President Joe Biden could not before pulling out the document handed to him by Harp, whom he referred to as a perfect woman while the audience cheered. Their close professional relationship has drawn widespread rumors of an affair during the campaign, though those rumors remain unverified and unproven.
The Grand Island Campaign Rally in Nebraska
Trump spoke for roughly an hour and a half at the Nebraska event, which the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) described as part of a presidential rescue operation ahead of the autumn midterm elections. Before signing the diesel order, Trump admitted from the stage that he did not know what tax-free diesel actually was. During the same speech, he joked about serving a third presidential term, attacked media organizations, praised the Iran war, mocked Kamala Harris, and took credit for allowing Americans to own lawnmowers without risking prison time.
The 32-Day National Blitz to Rescue Republican Seats
Several Republican seats in the Senate and House of Representatives remain at risk as Trump’s national approval ratings linger at record lows. Recent polling from CNN shows that 34 percent of the American public believes he is doing a good job. To counter the trend, Trump announced a 32-day travel blitz across the country last week, with stops already completed in Oklahoma and Alabama. According to the Associated Press, Trump has committed to more than 30 campaign travel events, telling the news agency that his campaign will visit a new location every single night.
The Political Stakes in Nebraska and Beyond
The president comes to Nebraska to help my campaign, so that I can be re-elected,
Republican Senator Pete Ricketts told the Associated Press last week. Ricketts faces independent candidate Dan Osborn in the upcoming election, a contender whom Republicans have nicknamed Democrat Dan because of his backing from Democratic voters.
