Trump Sparks Backlash After Iran Rant and Missed Easter Services

United States President Donald Trump skipped three Easter Sunday services on April 5, 2026, instead issuing a series of profane threats against Iran via social media and telephone communications. The president’s actions have triggered significant backlash from political opponents and raised public concerns regarding his health and mental state.

The 79-year-old president missed the 8:00 am, 9:00 am, and 11:00 am services at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Lafayette Square, a location known as the Church of the Presidents where he has previously been a regular attendee.

In place of attending the religious services, Trump conducted a ceremoniously slow tour of Washington DC, which included a visit to Memorial Circle. He also stopped at the Trump National Golf Club in Sterling, Virginia.

Threats Against Iranian Infrastructure

On the morning of April 5, 2026, President Trump utilized Truth Social to deliver an expletive-laden message demanding that Iran unblock the strategic Strait of Hormuz. He wrote, Open the F****n Strait, you crazy b******s, or you’ll be living in Hell – JUST WATCH!

The president further threatened to target Iranian power plants and bridges, designating the following Tuesday as Power Plant Day, and Bridge Day, all wrapped up in one, in Iran, claiming There will be nothing like it!!!

These public posts were accompanied by a 15-minute telephone call with Fox News reporter Trey Yingst. During the conversation, Trump stated that if Iran did not reach a deal quickly, he was considering blowing everything up and taking over the oil. He told Yingst that you’re going to see bridges and power plants dropping all over their country.

The president also included religious references in his messaging. After ending a threatening message on the day prior to Easter, he wrote Glory be to GOD!, and subsequently added Praise be to Allah to a post on Easter Sunday, which observers described as sardonic.

Political Reaction and Health Concerns

The rhetoric sparked immediate condemnation from Democratic lawmakers on Capitol Hill. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer posted on X that the president was ranting like an unhinged madman on social media while Americans were celebrating the holiday with family and friends.

He’s threatening possible war crimes and alienating allies. This represents who he is, but this is not who we are. Our country deserves so much better.

Senator Chris Murphy of Connecticut described the president’s attitude as completely, utterly unhinged. Murphy suggested that if he were a member of the president’s Cabinet, he would spend the holiday consulting constitutional lawyers regarding the 25th Amendment, which allows for the transfer of power if a president is unable to serve.

Senator Tim Kaine of Virginia noted that this is not the first instance of the president using stark language since the United States and Israel began an assault on the Islamic republic in late February 2026.
