The ongoing feud between former President Donald Trump and Elon Musk has escalated, with trump threatening “serious consequences” if Musk supports Democratic candidates. The dispute follows Musk’s criticism of the budget bill and unsubstantiated claims regarding Trump’s connection to Jeffrey Epstein.
Trump told Kristen Welker of NBC News he has no interest in mending his relationship with Musk after the billionaire criticized the budget bill passed by House lawmakers last month.
Vice President JD Vance has weighed in, urging Musk to “chill out.” Vance acknowledged musk’s frustration with criticisms he perceives as unfair but emphasized Trump’s restraint.”I actually think if Elon chilled out a little bit, everything would be fine,” Vance said.
Despite the current tensions, Vance lauded Musk as an “incredible entrepreneur” and praised Musk’s former role in the governance as head of the “Department of Government Efficiency,” or DOGE, which aimed to cut government spending.
Musk, who heads Tesla, Starlink, and spacex, also alleged without providing evidence that the government is concealing information about Trump’s association with Jeffrey epstein.
Vance refuted these claims, stating, “Absolutely not.donald Trump didn’t do anything wrong with Jeffrey Epstein.” while Trump’s name has appeared in court documents related to Epstein, this is not evidence of wrongdoing.
Musk had also shared a post calling for Trump’s impeachment and replacement with Vance, and also suggesting the formation of a new political party. vance dismissed these comments as “just not helpful.”
“It’s totally insane. the president is doing a good job,” Vance said.
Vance defended the budget bill, emphasizing it’s primary goal of extending the 2017 tax cuts.He countered Musk’s criticism of the bill, which the billionaire called a “disgusting abomination” that would increase the federal deficit. According to the Congressional Budget Office, the bill would increase deficits by $2.4 trillion over the decade and leave millions without health insurance.
“It’s a good bill,” Vance said. “It’s not a perfect bill.”
He also dismissed claims that house Republicans hadn’t had time to read the bill, stating that the text had been available for weeks.
“The idea that people haven’t had an prospect to actually read it is ridiculous,” Vance said.
