Trump Turns Down the Mic: Presidential Hopeful Declines Second Televised Debate
US Presidential Election: Trump Refuses to Participate in Second Debate
Former US President and Republican candidate Donald Trump has announced that he will not participate in the second televised debate before the upcoming presidential election in November.
Speaking at a rally in North Carolina on Saturday, September 21, Trump stated that it was too late for another debate, as voting has already started.
In contrast, Democratic Party candidate and current Vice President Kamala Harris has received an invitation to the debate hosted by CNN on October 23, and her campaign team has expressed openness to another debate with Trump.
The next US presidential election is scheduled to take place on November 5, but early voting has already begun in person in some states.
Despite claiming victory in the September 10 debate in Philadelphia, Trump has refused to participate in another debate, citing the start of early voting.
Harris’ campaign team has emphasized the importance of another debate, with campaign chairwoman Jane O’Malley Dillon stating that Americans deserve another chance to see Harris and Trump debate before the November election.
Dillon noted that having only one debate would be unprecedented in modern history, and that debates provide voters with a unique opportunity to evaluate different visions for America.
Harris has expressed his willingness to participate in another debate, and has invited Trump to attend.
The potential debate would follow the same format as the one held in June between Trump and President Joe Biden, which saw Trump gain an advantage over Biden.
The outcome of the debate had significant implications, with many Democrats questioning Biden’s candidacy after his poor performance, ultimately leading to his decision not to run and paving the way for Harris to become a candidate.
