Report of‌ Latest Strike

President Trump announced on Tuesday, March ⁢26, 2024, that⁤ U.S. forces struck a ⁣small ⁢boat off the coast of Venezuela, alleging ‌it was carrying drugs.‌ according to the president’s post on Truth Social, six individuals aboard the vessel were ⁤killed, with no U.S. personnel ⁤harmed.

This incident marks the⁢ fifth reported deadly strike ‍in the Caribbean authorized ⁢by the Trump administration against ⁣alleged drug traffickers, who the administration ⁣has designated as unlawful combatants. The administration reports ⁣that at least 27 people have died in these five ‍strikes.

Growing Congressional Concerns

The use of force has ⁣drawn increasing ‌scrutiny from members of both Republican⁢ and ⁢Democratic parties in Congress. Some Republicans have requested further details‍ from ⁤the White House regarding the legal basis and ⁢specifics⁤ of the strikes. Democrats have argued ‌that⁤ the⁤ strikes are in violation of both U.S. and international ‍law.

Mr. Trump stated that defense Secretary Pete Hegseth ordered the⁤ strike on Tuesday ⁢morning and⁢ released video footage of the event, a practice he has followed in previous instances.

According to Mr. trump, the strike occurred in international waters, ‍and ‍intelligence sources confirmed the vessel was engaged in narcotics trafficking, linked‌ to “narcoterrorist networks,” and ‍operating ⁣on a known drug trafficking route.

war Powers Resolution Fails

Last⁤ week, the Senate⁣ voted on a war powers resolution that⁣ would have ⁢required Congressional authorization before⁣ the⁣ Trump administration could conduct further strikes. However, the ⁤resolution did not pass.
