President Donald Trump is no longer considering tech entrepreneur Jared Isaacman to head NASA, according to a source familiar with the decision.Isaacman, a billionaire and associate of Elon Musk, had been nominated for the space agency’s top spot.
The individual, who requested anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss personnel matters publicly, confirmed the withdrawal. Neither the White House nor NASA has issued a statement.
Trump initially announced Isaacman’s nomination in December during the presidential transition. Isaacman’s connection to Musk dates back to 2021, when he chartered his frist flight on Musk’s SpaceX.
Isaacman, CEO and founder of Shift4, a credit card processing firm, has also personally funded multiple SpaceX flights and completed the first private spacewalk. He testified before the Senate on April 9, with a vote on his confirmation anticipated soon.
Musk,a trump advisor and SpaceX owner,recently departed from his role leading the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE),an agency created by trump to reduce the size of government.

The White House is expected to announce a new nominee for NASA administrator in the coming weeks. The focus will likely be on candidates with extensive experience in space exploration and management.
