Trump’s ‘Love Letter’ to 150+ Countries: 10-15% Fare Cut
Trump to Impose 10-15% Import Tariffs on Over 150 Countries
Jakarta – In a meaningful move that could reshape global trade dynamics, United States President Donald Trump has announced plans to issue new import tariffs to over 150 countries. The proposed tariffs are expected to range between 10% and 15%, according to statements made by Trump to reporters at the White House.
“we will send payment notifications to more than 150 countries. The letter will mention the tariff amount,” Trump stated,as quoted by the Business Times on Friday,July 18,2025. He emphasized that the tariff rates would be applied uniformly across the targeted country groups, which he described as not being major economies with ample trading volumes with the US.
In an interview with real America’s Voice, broadcast earlier in the week, Trump indicated that the specific tariff percentage was still under consideration. “Rates may be 10 or 15 percent. We haven’t decided,” he explained, highlighting the ongoing deliberation process within his governance.
This latest tariff proclamation follows a series of recent demands from the Trump administration. The new import duties are slated to take effect on August 1, unless more favorable trade terms are negotiated with the US. These letters represent an extension of an earlier deadline, originally set for July 9, by three weeks, a move that has reportedly caused concern among trading partners eager to avoid increased costs.
While President Trump and his advisors had initially expressed hope for widespread agreements, the President has also characterized the tariff documents themselves as a form of agreement. He has signaled a preference against protracted, back-and-forth negotiations, tho he has left the door open for countries to strike deals that could potentially reduce the imposed tariffs.
The potential impact of these tariffs on the global economy and specific trading relationships remains a subject of keen observation. The move is expected to prompt swift reactions and potential retaliatory measures from affected nations, further complicating the already intricate landscape of international commerce.
