Trump’s Ukraine Turning Point: Can the Former US President Help Zelensky Achieve a ‘Just Peace
President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, On Wednesday, he congratulated former US president Donald Trump on his apparent victory, pending confirmation. Zelensky expressed his hope that Trump’s new mandate could contribute to the establishment of a “just peace in Ukraine.”as reported by AFP.
Zelensky, through a statement posted on his social networks, highlighted his appreciation of Trump’s approach to foreign policy, especially the “peace through strength” strategy, in line with what he considers necessary to ensure peace in his country.
Trump has repeatedly stated that he would be able to achieve peace in Ukraine “within 24 hours.”although he has not specified his methods to achieve this goal. In addition, he has criticized the significant military and financial support provided by the Joe Biden administration to resist the Russian invasion, which began in February 2022. Trump has also offered favorable comments towards Russian President Vladimir Putin, raising concerns in Ukraine and the European Union (EU) about Trump’s possible inclination towards peace terms that benefit Moscow.
As a result of these circumstances, the president Zelensky urges Democrats and Republicans to continue strong support for Ukraine, which remains an area of conflict.
In the context of this conflict, Russia has continued to advance into Ukrainian territory. On the same Wednesday, he declared that he had taken control of two additional villages near the city of Kurajove, located in southeastern Ukraine. The Russian Defense Ministry said Russian forces had captured the towns of Maksimivka and Antonivka, which are south of Kurajov.
These actions are part of Moscow’s ongoing offensive in the region, which continues to generate international tensions and uncertainty about the situation in Eastern Europe.
