Mara Lezama Espinosa Celebrates Milestone, Highlighting Progress and Development in the Maya Area
Mexico City, November 3 – The “Felipe Carrillo Puerto” International Airport in Tulum has reached a significant milestone, welcoming its one millionth passenger. This achievement is a testament to the airport’s growth and the region’s increasing popularity as a tourist destination.
Gerardo Treviño Zúñiga, from Laredo, Tamaulipas, arrived at Tulum Airport on a flight from Monterrey, via Viva Aerobús, and became the one millionth passenger. Treviño Zúñiga was one of the first passengers at the airport when it opened in December last year.
“The arrival of our 1 millionth passenger is a significant fact that reflects the trust the world places in Mexico, in the construction of the second floor of the Fourth Transformation by President Claudia Sheinbaum, and in Quintana Roo as a leading destination. This achievement, supported by a return rate of more than 59 percent, shows that this humanist government with a feminist heart is moving in the right direction,” said Mara Lezama Espinosa, Governor of Quintana Roo.
This success is the result of the effort and commitment of all the residents of Quintana Roo, who are united in the work of building a prosperous region that benefits everyone, as we have called for through the New Agreement on for the Well-being and Development of Quintana Roo, where People are the center of action and no one is left out and no one is left behind.
The Governor announced that since its establishment, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) had predicted that this airport would receive 700,000 passengers and operate 4,500 flights in its first year. However, it has far exceeded these expectations, accumulating more than 7,790 operations already and today reaching the figure of one million passengers.
“With this growth rate, 2024 is expected to close with 10,100 operations and 1,300,000 passengers, consolidating itself as a connectivity axis for the Mexican Caribbean,” warned Mara Lezama.
In the same way, he reported that constant growth in the flow of passengers continues to be seen in all Quintana Roo airports ”and we are determined that this development translates into tourism with social justice that reaches every corner of the Mexican Caribbean.
