A moderately strong earthquake, registering 5.8 on the magnitude scale, struck Turkey early Tuesday, according to the U.S. Geological survey.The earthquake’s epicenter was approximately 3 miles south of İçmeler.
The tremor occurred at 2:17 a.m. Eastern European time. Seismologists are currently analyzing data collected from the earthquake. The USGS may adjust the reported magnitude as more data becomes available.
The USGS also indicated that the shake-severity map may be updated as scientists gather additional data about the earthquake.
