Turkey Triumphs Over Serbia, Secures Perfect EuroBasket Group Stage
Riga – In a thrilling conclusion to the European Championship (EC) group stage in Riga, the Turkish men’s basketball team cemented their dominance with a hard-fought 95-90 victory over serbia on Wednesday. The win secures a perfect record for Turkey in Group A, setting the stage for a promising playoff run.
The game, a back-and-forth affair, saw both teams trading leads throughout. Serbia initially jumped ahead with a 9-3 advantage, fueled by an early two-point shot from alex Avramovic.However, Turkey quickly responded with an 11-0 run, seizing a 19-11 lead. The first half was marred by an unfortunate ankle injury to Avramovic, sidelining him for the remainder of the contest.
Alperen Shengin led the charge for Turkey, delivering a monstrous performance with 28 points, 13 rebounds, and 8 assists. He did commit 5 turnovers. He was ably supported by Shane Larkin,who contributed 23 points and 9 assists. Cedi Osman added 16 points, while Ersan Ilyasova chipped in with 10 points and 5 rebounds.
For Serbia, Nikola Jokic led the way with 22 points and 9 rebounds. Marko Guduric scored 12 points, while Filip Petrusev and Nikola Jovic each added 10 points. Stefan Jovic also dished out 6 assists.
The victory caps off an impressive group stage for Turkey, who finished with five wins. Serbia finished with four wins, followed by Latvia with three, Portugal with two, and Estonia with one. The Czech Republic, unfortunately, ended the group stage without a win.

Portugal defeated Estonia 68-65.
Latvia defeated the Czech Republic 109-75.
Group B Update:
In Group B action, Great Britain defeated Montenegro 89-83, while Sweden secured a spot in the semi-finals for the first time. Lithuania edged out Sweden 74-71, and Germany dominated Finland 91-61. Germany finished atop Group B with five wins, followed by Lithuania with four, Finland with three, and Sweden, Montenegro, and Great Britain each with one win.
Looking Ahead:
The European Championship Finals will continue with 24 teams competing in four groups across Riga, Tampere, Katowice, and Limassol. The top four teams from each group will advance to the playoffs in Riga, where the medal winners will be steadfast in early September.Groups A and B will meet in the semi-finals, promising exciting matchups as the tournament progresses.
