Global Inflation Rates: OECD Report Highlights

The Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) has released its latest report on average headline inflation rates among its 38 member countries, including Turkey. The report reveals a significant disparity in inflation rates between Turkey and other OECD countries.

According to the OECD report, the average headline inflation rate for all 38 member countries, including Turkey, was 5.7 percent. However, when Turkey is excluded from the calculation, the average inflation rate drops to 2.9 percent. This highlights the substantial impact of Turkey’s high inflation rate on the overall OECD average.

Turkey’s inflation rate has been a major concern, with the country experiencing a significant decline in inflation of almost 10 percentage points. Despite this decline, Turkey’s inflation rate remains above 60 percent, significantly higher than the OECD average.

The report also notes that Turkey’s Consumer Price Index (CPI) increased by 3.23 percent in July, reaching its lowest level in nine months. The annual inflation rate in Turkey stands at 61.78 percent, according to official data.

In contrast, the G7 countries have experienced relatively stable inflation rates, with year-on-year headline inflation remaining at 2.7 percent in July.

Turkey has the highest food inflation rate among OECD countries, with a staggering 58.9 percent increase in July. This is more than 7.5 times higher than the next highest country, Mexico, which experienced a 7.8 percent increase in food inflation. The OECD average for food inflation in July was 4.3 percent.
