The Turkish General Directorate of Civil Aviation announced, in a statement on the X platform, yesterday, Tuesday, “the signing of a memorandum of understanding that allows for increasing the number of flights between the two countries from 35 to 80 per week.”
The statement added that the deal also removes restrictions on the destinations to which flights between the two countries can fly.
He expressed the hope that this memorandum of understanding would contribute to developing relations between the two countries and would be beneficial to airlines.
Turkey has witnessed an increase in the number of aircraft passing through its airspace in recent years, at a rate of 2.1 million flights in 2023, or about one aircraft every 15 seconds.
In this context, a source at the General Directorate of State Airports Authority (DMHI) said that the number of flights, including transit flights, in Turkish airspace rose by 14.9% on an annual basis in 2023, meaning that it rose from 1.8 million to 2.1 million. a trip.
Aviation experts say this rise is due to numerous investments in the country’s civil aviation infrastructure.
