Indian Women Enlisted in Israeli Forces
Tel Aviv: In a notable development, two Indian women of Gujarati origin have made their mark by serving in the Israeli army. Nisha and Riya, both hailing from the Gujarati village of Kothadi, are currently part of the Israeli forces. Their involvement comes as no surprise since compulsory military service is mandatory in Israel.
Nisha, employed as an officer in the Department of War Communications and Cyber Security, has been serving alongside the Israeli forces for the past two years. Her assignments have taken her to the borders of Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, and Egypt, where she has played a crucial role in maintaining security. On the other hand, Riya is undergoing training to secure a permanent position within the Israeli army.
Both women’s families immigrated to Israel years ago and subsequently acquired citizenship. Nisha’s father, Jeevabhai Muliasia, runs a shop in Tel Aviv. Notably, during a recent visit to Tel Aviv, Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani and his wife paid a visit to Jeevabhai’s residence, indicating the respect and recognition these brave women have earned.
It is important to mention that Nisha and Riya are not currently involved in the ongoing Hamas-Israel conflict. While serving their country as part of the Israeli forces, their direct participation in this specific war has not been reported.
Mandatory military service in Israel requires all individuals above the age of 18 to contribute. Men serve a duration of two years and eight months, while women serve for two years. Exceptions are made for those with physical or mental disabilities, and individuals excelling in arts or sports are granted a 75% relaxation. Remarkably, the Israel Defense Forces maintain equal representation of both genders, with women holding vital positions.
