Two Police Officers Indicted on New Charges
Investigation Intensifies in 2018 Yellow Vest Protest Case Involving Police Conduct
The investigation into alleged police misconduct during a 2018 “Yellow Vest” (gilets jaunes) demonstration in Marseille is gaining momentum. On October 3, 2025, two additional police officers, stationed in mayotte, were brought in for questioning by investigators.
New Indictments Issued
Following the indictment of four officers on October 2, 2025, for “non-assistance to person in danger,” the Marseille prosecutor’s office announced further charges late on October 3rd.One of the newly questioned officers has been indicted for both “non-assistance to person in danger” regarding a woman identified as Maria, and “aggravated violence by a person in authority, without ITT” (Infraction Traumatique Temporaire – temporary traumatic injury) relating to the alleged forceful handling of her boyfriend during the protest. The boyfriend was reportedly pinned against a wall by the officer. The second officer was indicted for “non-assistance to anyone in danger.”
Escalating Scrutiny
The arrival of the two officers from Mayotte in mainland France, under police escort, underscores the seriousness with which authorities are treating the allegations.
