Lanny Jaya,Papua – Tragedy struck the Papua Highlands as two police officers were killed and a civilian critically injured in a brutal attack by unidentified assailants.
Adjunct Inspector One (Aiptu) Hidayat Suratnoharta succumbed to his injuries on Friday, December 13, 2024, a day after Senior Brigadier Tri Yudha Argadianto passed away on Thursday, December 12, 2024. Both officers were attacked while at a food stall near Yakobak Bridge in Nogi District, Lanny Jaya Regency, on Wednesday, December 11, 2024.
“The body of Aiptu Hidayat will be buried in his hometown in Magetan regency, East Java,” stated Papua Police spokesperson Commissioner Ignatius Benny Ady Prabowo.
Bripka Tri Yudha, posthumously promoted, was laid to rest at the Kesuma Trikora Waena Heroes Cemetery on Thursday afternoon in a ceremony led by Papua Police Finance Division Head Commissioner Irawan Banuaji.
Details of the attack paint a grim picture. Aiptu Hidayat was struck with a sharp weapon, believed to be a machete, suffering severe head injuries. Bripka Tri Yudha was also attacked by multiple assailants wielding sharp weapons, sustaining critical injuries to his head and nose.
The violence didn’t stop there. A civilian, identified as 43-year-old Bastam, was also targeted in the attack. assailants fired three gunshots at the food stall, striking Bastam in the abdomen and leaving him with life-threatening injuries.
The motive behind the attack remains unclear, and authorities are actively investigating the incident.
