Newly unsealed court documents and search warrants have revealed a letter and messages in which 22-year-old Tyler Robinson allegedly admitted to the assassination of conservative political activist Charlie Kirk.

The documents detail a letter Robinson left for his roommate and boyfriend, referred to as Luna, prior to the killing of Kirk on September 10, 2025, at Utah Valley University. In the letter, Robinson wrote that he had the opportunity to take out Charlie Kirk and that he did so.

Kirk, 31, was speaking at the university as part of a Turning Point USA tour when the incident occurred. Robinson was apprehended on the evening of September 11, 2025, after his father identified him in photographs released by authorities.

Legal Charges and Prosecution

Utah County Attorney Jeff Gray announced on September 16, 2025, that prosecutors have filed a notice to seek the death penalty against Robinson. Gray described the death of Kirk as an American tragedy.

Legal Charges and Prosecution

Robinson faces a series of formal charges, including:

  • Aggravated murder and capital murder
  • Felony discharge of a firearm causing serious bodily injury
  • Obstruction of justice
  • Two counts of witness tampering
  • Commission of a violent offense in the presence of a child

During a virtual court appearance on September 16, 2025, a judge read the charges to Robinson. Reports indicate he showed no emotion during the proceedings and only spoke to provide his name. He remains in custody without bail.

Evidence and Alleged Motive

The unsealed search warrants provided by the State Bureau of Investigation highlight communications sent after the event. In addition to the letter left for his roommate, documents reference a Discord group chat where a participant exclaimed, Tyler killed Charlie!!!!

According to officials, Robinson stated he killed Kirk because he spreads too much hate and claimed there was too much evil.

If you are reading this … I am likely dead, or facing a lengthy prison sentence. I had the opportunity to take out Charlie Kirk and I took it.

Letter from Tyler Robinson to his roommate

Further evidence includes text messages between Robinson and his roommate, Lance Twiggs, which were revealed by prosecutors on September 16, 2025.

Recent court filings have also addressed a bullet analysis in the case. While some claims circulated that the analysis cleared Robinson, reports indicate the results were inconclusive.
