[Reporter Ou Sumei/Taichung Report]Taichung Tzu Chi Hospital’s “Tzu Chi Central District Spinal Cord Injury Medical Reconstruction Center” was unveiled today! Nearly 70 people with spinal injuries witnessed the history. The Central District Tzu Chi Medical Association and Taichung Tzu Chi Hospital jointly arranged 15 special free clinics for people with spinal injuries, so that those who are inconvenient to seek medical treatment on weekdays can get medical care quickly; Shanhaitun Spinal Cord Pai Miaozhu, secretary-general of the Injury Association, said, “On the road of rehabilitation and reconstruction, you will not be alone with Tzu Chi.”
Guo Hanchong, deputy executive director of Tzu Chi Medical Corporation, said that Tzu Chi Medical has been committed to assisting the reconstruction of spinal cord injuries for 35 years. Ji Hospital established the “Spinal Cord Injury Medical Reconstruction Center” to build a spinal cord injury medical network in Taiwan. In addition to providing medical assistance, each center will collect the information of injured friends, actively track and record the medical results and rescue conditions of individual cases. The road to reconstruction is long, and the center was established. Not only to help the wounded to face life and society again, but more importantly, to help the wounded who are unwilling or unable to come out to see the light again.
Tzu Chi Foundation Deputy Chief Executive Lin Jingxi pointed out that the unveiling of the plaque means that Tzu Chi has a clearer direction in medical assistance and charity care for spinal cord injuries, and encourages the injured to “have Tzu Chi, please rest assured”; Taichung Tzu Chi Hospital Chang Jian Shouxin said that medical care follows the footsteps of charity, and in the future will take the initiative to go into the dark corners to care for the wounded and help them face life again. Tzu Chi then held a free clinic for spinal injury patients on the spot. Ke Kunnan, Director-General of the Taichung Spinal Cord Injury Association, said that the free clinic is very helpful to the injured, because it is very difficult for the injured to seek medical treatment. Tzu Chi’s free clinic arranges more than 10 departments to meet the different medical needs of each injured, especially dental care. Diagnosis requires human assistance.
Chen Wanyi, Dental Director of Taichung Tzu Chi Hospital, said that many injured patients are unable to clean their mouths properly due to spinal injuries affecting the motor function of their hands, causing many oral problems. It is recommended that injured patients return to the clinic for oral health care within 3 months.
Physician Wang Zuoren, a psychosomatic doctor, said that those who are willing to come out for free consultations are not considered serious wounded friends. He believes that wounded people are often cared about the visible wounds, but the invisible wounds in the heart are the ones that most need to be reconstructed.
