U19 Asia Cup 2021: Afghanistan coup hopes shattered; India reach Under-19 Asia Cup semi-finals

Dubai: India (India U19) reach the semi-finals of the Under-19 Asia Cup (ACC U19 Asia Cup 2021). India reached the last four by defeating Afghanistan (AFG U19) by four wickets in the third match of Group A. After losing the toss and opting to bat, the Afghan scored 259 for four in the allotted overs. In reply, India chased down the target by six wickets in 48.2 overs.

Harnoor Singh was India’s top scorer with 65 runs. Harnoor gave India a good start with Englishman Raghuvanshi (35). Both added 104 runs for the opening wicket. But India soon lost both. Later, Sheikh Rashid (6), Yash Dul (26), Nishant Sidhu (19) and Aradhya Yadav (12) could not hold their own. India were 197 for six in 37.4 overs.

But Raj Bawa (43) and Kushal Tampe (35) were instrumental in India’s victory. Both added 65 runs. India’s victory is complete. Noor Ahmed took four wickets for Afghanistan. Earlier, Ijaz Ahmed (86 not out off 68 balls) and skipper Sulainman Safi (73) led the Afghans to a better score.

Apart from India, Pakistan is another team that has advanced to the semis. Pakistan are the group champions. The UAE is out with Afghanistan. India will face the winners of tomorrow’s Sri Lanka-Bangladesh match in the semi-finals.
