Irish rock band U2 filmed a music video for their new track, Street of Dreams
, in Mexico City on May 12, 2026. The song is featured on the group’s next studio album, which is scheduled for release later in 2026.
Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton, and Larry Mullen Jr. Were observed performing on top of a school bus during the shoot. The vehicle had been graffitied by local artist Chavis Mármol, and the event drew a crowd of hundreds of fans to the streets of the Mexican capital.
Connection to Street Child World Cup
The filming took place while Mexico City hosted the 2026 Street Child World Cup. The tournament, which featured 30 teams from around the world, began on May 6, 2026, and concluded on May 14, 2026.

It’s a little NGO with a big kick for kids with all of the talent and none of the access. Our band are proud supporters. Larry Mullen Jr.
Vision for the Upcoming Album
The forthcoming record follows the 2023 release of Songs of Surrender
, which reached No. 1 on the Official U.K. Albums Chart and No. 5 on the Billboard 200. The band has remained active recently, including the release of the Easter Lily
EP in April 2026.
Bono provided a written statement regarding the direction of the new studio album, describing it as an attempt to create a vivid rock and roll experience in response to current global instability.
We are in the studio, still working towards a noisy, messy, ‘unreasonably colourful’ album to play LIVE… which is where U2 lives. We still look to vivid rock n roll as an act of resistance against all this awfulness on our small screens. These are for sure ‘wilderness years’ for so many of us looking at the mayhem out there in the world. Bono
Bono further noted that the band will attempt hoopla and fanfare at a later date to remind the rest of the world we exist but in the meantime… This is between you and us.
Career Milestones and Legacy
U2’s use of street performances as a visual centerpiece is a recurring theme in their history. In the late 1980s, the band performed on a rooftop in downtown Los Angeles for the music video of Where the Streets Have No Name
, directed by Meiert Avis. That video won the Grammy Award for best performance music video at the 31st Annual Grammy Awards.
The era of that performance was defined by the 1987 album The Joshua Tree
, which established the group as a premier stadium act and one of the most successful bands of the period.
The band’s commercial success includes eight No. 1 albums on the Billboard 200 and 34 songs that have entered the Billboard Hot 100, including two that reached the top spot. U2 was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2005.
More recently, U2 inaugurated the Sphere in Las Vegas in September 2023 with their residency titled U2:UV Achtung Baby Live at Sphere
.
