UAE Condemns Attack on ADNOC Vessel
Neither the initial statements from state media nor the foreign ministry identified the specific tanker, its cargo capacity, or the extent of any physical damage sustained during the strike. Officials confirmed that no crew members were injured in the incident.
Accusations of Piracy and Economic Pressure
The UAE government accused Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps of engaging in acts of piracy by deliberately targeting commercial shipping and using the narrow waterway as an instrument of economic coercion. According to the UAE Foreign Ministry, the assault directly violates United Nations Security Council resolutions guaranteeing freedom of navigation.
The ministry formally called on Tehran to halt all attacks against commercial shipping and to reopen the Strait of Hormuz fully and unconditionally. Iranian military leadership has previously warned that it would take action against any vessels transiting the strait if those ships maintain ties to Iranian adversaries or fail to comply with directives issued by Tehran.
Broader Conflict Disrups Energy Shipping
Prior to the war, approximately one-fifth of the world’s global oil and liquefied natural gas supplies moved through the narrow corridor situated between Oman and Iran. The company disclosed that 15 of its vessels have sustained missile and drone attacks since the conflict began, resulting in the death of one crew member and injuries to 20 others.
