Abu Dhabi : UAE to achieve target of 10 crore trees by planting more than 3 crore mangroves E. Proceedings commenced. The plan is to increase the area of mangroves in the country to 483 sq km by 2030. According to the Minister of Environment and Meteorology, Mariam al-Mahiri, the project will reduce carbon emissions by 1.15 million tonnes per year. There are currently 183 square kilometers of mangroves in various emirates.
Mangroves have been found to reduce atmospheric warming, control water salinity, and provide safe habitat for many species.
