Chinese robotics firm UBTECH Robotics is making significant strides in industrial automation with its UQI subsidiary. UQI has successfully completed Production Validation Testing (PVT) for its Chitu α autonomous logistics vehicle at Foxconn’s New Energy Vehicle (NEV) R&D Centre in Zhengzhou, February 7, 2026.

This PVT completion marks a crucial milestone, signifying the vehicle’s adherence to manufacturing standards and paving the way for mass production. The testing encompassed the entire production cycle within Foxconn’s smart factory, validating the Chitu α’s performance in a real-world industrial setting.

What is Chitu α?

The Chitu α, also referred to as Chitu or Chitu L4, is a Level 4 autonomous logistics vehicle and a core component of UBTECH’s comprehensive robotics solution for smart factories. Designed to automate material handling and logistical tasks, the vehicle aims to enhance efficiency within industrial warehouses and logistics operations through driverless capabilities. It’s intended to operate as a key element in a more automated factory floor.

UBTECH has demonstrated the Chitu α’s capabilities in conjunction with other robotic systems. At BYD’s Changsha industrial park, the Chitu α, alongside Walker S1/S2 humanoid robots and Wali heavy-duty forklifts, achieved a fully automated indoor-to-outdoor process. This integrated system managed tasks from sorting and palletizing to outdoor transfer and distribution, showcasing a seamless workflow.

The Full-Stack Autonomous System

In October 2025, UQI unveiled its “Full-Stack Unmanned Logistics Solution 2.0.” This system integrates the Walker S2 humanoid robot, the Chitu α autonomous vehicle, and a new family of Wali mobile robots. The platform is designed as an end-to-end automation solution for logistical operations, aiming to cover the entire workflow from storage to final distribution.

The solution enables 24/7 closed-loop workflows encompassing storage, sorting, handling, and distribution. Applications extend beyond factory floors to encompass e-commerce warehouses and third-party logistics hubs. UBTECH’s UPilot 20 operating system serves as the central orchestrator for the entire system, managing the coordinated operation of these diverse robotic elements.

A New Way to Run Factories

The Foxconn PVT project highlights a potential future for factory operations. Chitu α logistics vehicles are designed to collaborate with UBTECH’s Walker S2 humanoid robots, each handling distinct tasks on the factory floor. This collaborative approach envisions a future where multiple types of robots function as a coordinated team to manage material movement and logistics in live production environments.

The completed production run was a complete closed-loop process, from vehicle assembly and testing to final delivery, establishing a solid foundation for the vehicle’s upcoming mass production. This demonstrates not just the vehicle’s functionality, but also the viability of scaling its production for wider industrial deployment.

A Positive Road Ahead

UBTECH has already gained recognition with its Walker S2 humanoid robots, designed for factory work and featuring autonomous battery swapping and full mobility. These robots have been deployed and tested in manufacturing environments, including a 5G-enabled wind turbine plant. This prior experience likely informed the development and testing of the Chitu α.

The company is currently trialing Walker S2 robots with Airbus and is also seeing evaluation of its machines on production lines at companies like Texas Instruments. The consistent performance of these systems at scale will be a key factor in determining the speed and extent of future adoption. While initial trials are promising, sustained reliability and cost-effectiveness in high-volume manufacturing will be critical for widespread implementation.

The successful PVT at Foxconn represents a significant step forward for UBTECH and UQI, demonstrating the potential of autonomous logistics solutions to transform industrial operations. The integration of the Chitu α with other robotic systems, orchestrated by the UPilot 20 operating system, points towards a future of increasingly automated and efficient factories.
