UH expands Cardiovascular Services at Lake West Medical Center
University Hospitals Harrington Heart & Vascular Institute is broadening its cardiovascular services by introducing a structural heart program and a new cardiac catheterisation lab at UH Lake West Medical Center. The initiative focuses on improving patient care through minimally invasive procedures,offering advanced treatment options for a range of heart conditions.
Dr. Mehdi Shishehbor, president of the institute, emphasized UH Lake West as a “center of excellence,” ensuring patients receive top-tier cardiac and vascular care close to home. Interventional cardiologist Dr. Justin Dunn will lead the new program as regional director of the Valve & Structural Heart Disease Center.
The expanded services include transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) for aortic stenosis, left atrial appendage occlusion for atrial fibrillation, and percutaneous mitral valve repair. UH Lake West is also equipped for more peripheral, coronary, and electrophysiology procedures, including pacemaker management.
The new cardiac catheterisation lab features advanced technology for enhanced diagnostic imaging during coronary, structural, and peripheral procedures. Thes advancements aid in identifying arterial blockages and provide safer treatment options with reduced radiation exposure.
Further enhancing patient experience, UH Lake West is constructing a hybrid operating room, slated for completion later this year.
