Recent weeks have seen increased diplomatic activity, including direct talks between both sides earlier this month in Istanbul, the first in over three years. While a prisoner exchange occurred and promises to maintain contact were made, no major breakthroughs were achieved in the peace talks.

President Volodymyr Zelensky said Friday that his government requires Moscow to ‍provide its peace terms in advance of further discussions, accusing the Kremlin of sabotaging potential meetings. He emphasized the need for a ceasefire to halt the loss of life.

“There must be a ceasefire⁤ to continue moving⁣ towards peace. We need to stop the killing‍ of people,” Zelensky said.
