‍ ⁤ Updated June 3, 2025

Ukraine’s security service (SBU) said Tuesday it struck ⁢the Kerch Bridge ⁣linking Russia to Crimea using underwater explosives. The SBU released footage of the attack, claiming 1,100 kilograms of explosives were used ‍to damage the bridge’s underwater supports.

Russian authorities temporarily suspended operations on the bridge for about⁢ three hours Tuesday morning,⁣ later stating it had ‍reopened and was functioning normally. The ⁣19-kilometer bridge is a key supply route for Russian forces and a ⁣direct link between Russia and the ⁣Crimean Peninsula, which Russia annexed in 2014.

The SBU said the attack, prepared over several months, was a continuation of previous ⁢strikes on the bridge in 2022 and 2023.

Meanwhile, a Russian artillery attack on sumy, a city in⁣ northeastern Ukraine near ⁣the Russian border, killed⁤ three ‍people and injured 25, including children, according to the city council and health ministry.

Video from Reuters showed damage ⁣on ⁢a street in Sumy, with rescuers and police at the scene. The health ministry ⁣reported that eight of the wounded were in serious condition, including⁣ three⁣ children.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said ⁢a rocket that failed to detonate was lodged in an apartment building. “That’s all one needs to know about the Russian wish to end this war,” Zelenskyy stated on his Telegram channel.

Peace talks between ‍Russia and Ukraine⁣ in Istanbul on Monday failed‍ to yield a ceasefire. Russia demanded territorial concessions and limits on Ukraine’s army, which‍ Ukraine rejected. Zelenskyy said decisive action from ⁢the U.S.,Europe,and ⁣other world powers was needed to convince Putin to agree to a ceasefire.

Earlier Tuesday, Ukrainian officials in the eastern Donetsk region reported that four civilians were killed in separate artillery attacks overnight. Russia denies targeting civilians.
