Zelenskyy Reports Constructive War-End Talks with Russia, U.S.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced Saturday that two days of trilateral talks with Russia and the United States in Abu Dhabi resulted in “constructive” discussions regarding potential pathways to end the war. This marks the first confirmed instance of officials from the Trump governance meeting with representatives from both countries as part of Washington’s efforts to achieve progress in resolving Moscow’s nearly four-year invasion of Ukraine.
Zelenskyy stated via Telegram that all parties will report back to their respective capitals and coordinate further steps with their leaders. Military representatives identified key issues for a potential follow-up meeting, which could occur as soon as next week.
He also indicated a shared understanding of the necessity for American monitoring and oversight throughout the war’s conclusion and to guarantee lasting security.
U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and jared Kushner joined Ukrainian officials, including chief negotiator Rustem Umerov and military intelligence head Kyrylo Budanov. Russia sent representatives from its military intelligence and army, according to Zelenskyy.
The United Arab Emirates’ Foreign Ministry stated the talks were part of broader efforts “to promote dialog and identify political solutions to the crisis.” A U.S. official expressed encouragement regarding the discussions, noting a willingness “on both sides” to engage. The official characterized the meetings as positive and constructive.
The next round of talks is scheduled.
