The Ukrainian army has started using a new domestic Unmanned Aerial Vehicle called Sokol-300, which is similar to Turkey’s Bayraktar TB2, The full length of Sokol 300 is 8.5 meters, with a wingspan of up to 14 meters, and it can carry up to 300 kilograms of payload. The maximum flight height of this drone can reach 12 kilometers, and the range is 3,300 kilometers, which is quite amazing! Enough to cover the distance from the border between Ukraine and Russia to at least 80 air force bases in the Russian Arctic Circle.

Sources pointed out that the design of the Sokul 300 long-range drone was developed by engineers from the Luch Design Bureau. This attack drone can be powered by several types of engine, including the domestic Ukrainian MS-500 engines – 05C/CE and AI -450T2, or Austrian Rotax 914 engine. The performance of the first two engines is unclear, but Rotax-914 can be used as a reference. The Rotax 914 is a turbocharged, 4-stroke 4-cylinder, aeroengine horizontally opposed, equipped with air-cooled cylinders and water-cooled cylinder heads.

The maximum power is 84 kW (115 hp) at 5800 rpm, and 73 kW (100 hp) during endurance.

The UAV can be equipped with RK-10, P2-M and RK-2P missiles, with a maximum strike range of 10 kilometers. In addition, drones can carry synthetic aperture radar (SAR) and small radar equipment. According to official data, Ukraine has received 50 Beika TB2 Turkish flag carriers. However, all of these drones were shot down by Russian air defense systems in 2022.

The similarities between the Sokul-300 and the Byka Flagger are not accidental Turkey and Ukraine are understood to have agreed to build a Flagger production plant in Ukraine Although the agreement expires in the second half of 2023, it may include the transfer technology, which could contribute to the development of Sokul.
