The Ukrainian military sank a Russian Navy patrol ship with only six unmanned aerial vehicle (USV) attacks.

The Intelligence Service (GUR) under the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense announced on the 2nd that “Agents of Special Forces ’13’ under the Military Intelligence Service of Ukraine (GUR) sank the Russian Black Sea Fleet patrol vessel Ivanovets.”

A two-minute video released by GUR on social media shows several Ukrainian drones colliding and exploding on a vessel believed to be the Ivanovets in Lake Donuslav, western Crimea, on the night of the 1 . At the end of the video, there was also a picture of the sinking ship.

According to a statement from GUR, the Russian corvette was patrolling the Black Sea near Lake Donuslav and was damaged to the point where it was unable to move after several direct hits to its hull by a drone. This corvette is reported to be worth around 60 to 70 million dollars (79.5 to 92.7 billion won).

Director of Intelligence Kirillo Budanov told The War Zone: “During the destruction of the ship, navy drones made six direct hits on the hull of the ship. “The ship sank due to damage,” he said. “According to preliminary data, the enemy’s search and rescue operation has not been successful.” The Russian Ministry of Defense has not confirmed claims that the Ivanovets were sunk.

CNN reported that Special Forces ’13’ said, “A self-produced ‘Magura V5’ drone boat was used in this operation.” The Magura V5, a multi-purpose unmanned vehicle that performs surveillance, reconnaissance, search and rescue, and combat missions, is said to be capable of engaging targets while carrying 250 to 300 kg of explosives from up to 800 km away using satellite communications .

GUR has previously had success using this unmanned vehicle. On November 10 last year, two Russian landing ships anchored at the Russian naval base in Chornomorsk, western Crimea, were destroyed.
