Ukrainian secret service (SBU) kills pro-Russian politician Ilya Kyva

Ukraine has claimed responsibility for killing Ukrainian politician Ilya Kyva. His body was found near Moscow in the afternoon.

Former Ukrainian MP Ilya Kyva has apparently been killed by the Ukrainian secret service (SBU). His body was found in the village of Suponevo in the Odintsovo district of the Moscow region, writes the Russian state news agency Ria Novosti, citing emergency services.

As the independent Russian exile media “Meduza” reports, citing several Telegram channels, Kywa’s body was discovered on Wednesday around 3 p.m. local time in a pool of blood in the snow in the park area of the “Velich Country Club” hotel. A cut was reportedly found on Kywa’s right temple and a hematoma on the left side of his face. The information cannot currently be independently verified.

Ukraine claims responsibility for Kyva’s killing

A little later, Ukraine claimed responsibility for the politician’s killing. According to information from the AFP news agency from Ukrainian defense circles, the Ukrainian secret service SBU organized Kyva’s murder. Ukrainian military intelligence spokesman Andryi Yusov also said on Ukrainian television that his service could “confirm that Kywa is finished.”

Kywa was “one of the greatest traitors and collaborators” and his killing was “just,” said the spokesman. A similar fate will also befall “other traitors to Ukraine and the henchmen of the Putin regime.” Kywa was a member of the Ukrainian parliament until he was stripped of his seat and defected to Russia a few weeks after the start of the Russian military offensive.

Ukrainian media such as Ukrainska Pravda had previously reported, citing anonymous sources, that Kywa was killed as a result of a special operation by the Ukrainian security service. Accordingly, the politician is said to have been killed by small arms fire.

Another pro-Russian politician killed in car bomb

According to information from Moscow, a pro-Russian politician was also killed in eastern Ukraine. The exact circumstances of the attack in the center of the city of Luhansk are still being investigated, the Russian Investigative Committee said on Wednesday. The person killed was Oleg Popov, who was a member of the Luhansk regional parliament loyal to Moscow. The Ukrainian authorities have not yet commented on Popov.

Since Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine began in February last year, several high-ranking politicians appointed by Moscow have been the target of attacks. Just over a month ago, another member of the Luhansk regional parliament was killed by an explosive device attached to his car. Ukraine claimed responsibility for the action. There was initially no reaction from Kiev to the attack on Popov.
