The Ukrainian security service announced that they had thwarted a Russian plan to assassinate the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskiy, by attacking his vehicle with missiles and drones.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the Security Bureau explained that Russia plans to launch a missile attack once it secures the location of President Zelenskyy from an insider.

The Security Service announced that it had arrested five people involved in the assassination campaign, including two high-ranking officials from the Russian Ministry of State Security who had been in close contact with the Russian Federal Security Service.

According to the Security Bureau, these officers were colonel-level officers, and one of them agreed to receive more than $50,000 in exchange for providing location information.

President Zelenskyy has said that there were at least 10 assassination attempts against him in 2022.
