UN Secretary General condemns North Korea’s missile launch ahead of Security Council meeting

UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres condemned North Korea’s missile launch ahead of a Security Council meeting on rising tensions on the Korean Peninsula on the 4th (local time).

According to the AFP news agency, Secretary-General Guterres issued a statement through Spokesman Stefan Dujarric, urging North Korea to “immediately stop provocative actions”.

Secretary General Guterres has called on North Korea to comply with all international obligations under Security Council resolutions.

He expressed deep concern about the tensions on the Korean Peninsula and said he was concerned about the increasing number of conflict investigations.

Secretary-General Guterres urged the DPRK to take immediate steps to resume dialogue and called on “all parties involved to create conditions for dialogue that could lead to complete and verifiable denuclearization.”

His statement was made before a public meeting of the Security Council to discuss the issue of North Korea that afternoon.

North Korea fired about 20 missiles, including short-range ballistic missiles (SRBMs), towards the east and west seas on the 2nd, and fired 6 ballistic missiles and 80 shells into the east seas for a day on the 3rd .
