“Do you know Lee Yun-hee?”

The parents of Lee Yun-hee (then 29), who passed away near Chonbuk National University 18 years ago, stood in front of reporters wearing a T-shirt with this phrase written on it. Mr Lee’s parents appealed: “Please help us find out the truth about the accident.”

Her father Lee Dong-se (87) and mother Song Hwa-ja (84) held a press conference in front of the Jeonbuk Police Agency on the 16th and said, “I don’t even have the energy to wait for my daughter anymore , but I came here with the feeling that this is the last time.”

According to Lee and others, Yoon-hee, who was a fourth-year student at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of Chonbuk National University, disappeared after returning home alone at around 2:30 am on the 6th, the next day, after a school weekend party held at a restaurant in Jeonju on June 5, 2006. He was only one semester away from graduation.

It turned out that Yoon-hee searched for the words “112” and “sexual harassment” on her computer for about 3 minutes around 2:59 am on the day of her disappearance. The computer shut down at 4:21am the same day.

Friends who found it strange that Yun-hee didn’t come to school visited Yun-hee’s house on the 8th. When the door was closed, the friends called the police and entered the house. The house was left in disarray by Yoon-hee’s dog. The friends cleaned up the house after getting permission from the police district personnel. This prevented the police from obtaining initial evidence.

Mr Lee stressed that the initial police investigation at the time of the disappearance had been mediocre and appealed: “Please join the media in finding out the truth about the case.”

Mr Lee said police had not adequately preserved the crash scene.

Furthermore, the police were unable to properly uncover the process even though someone accessed Yoon-hee’s computer on June 13 of that year, a week after her disappearance. Furthermore, Mr Lee says that although some of Yoon-hee’s conversations with her older sister via Internet messaging and some of her search history before her disappearance were deleted from the computer, she did not receive a clear response from the police who investigated the case.

At that time, the police deployed about 15,000 men and conducted a large-scale search operation in the mountains and rivers near Chonbuk National University. We also looked for comic rooms, saunas and PC rooms, but without much success.

It’s been 18 years since Yoon-hee passed away.

Mr Lee said: “I don’t have much time left to live. “I turned 87 this year, so if my youngest daughter were still alive, she would be 47 too.”

She continued: “It’s been 18 years since my daughter disappeared, so I’ve done enough. Is it right for me to give up on finding my daughter?” so shamelessly, putting investigations on the back burner, folding their arms and refusing requests to disclose information?

Mr Lee said: “In the current ridiculous situation, I have no time to worry about my age or estimate my future,” and added: “I will do everything I can to reveal the truth and find my daughter.”

He added: “I want to finish this while I’m still alive. “I don’t want my remaining children to live a miserable life anymore,” she cried.

Previously, Mr Lee had sued police officers who participated in the investigation at the time of his daughter’s disappearance on charges of destruction of evidence.

Jeonbuk police also intervened during the press conference held by Yoon-hee’s parents that day. The police held an information session and said, “We will do our best to resolve the suspicions so that Yoon-hee’s parents can ease the burden on their hearts.”

A police official said: “We have been trying to find the missing person since the accident, but the family raises many questions,” and added: “Since 18 years have passed, there may be difficulties, but we will look into the case keeping many possibilities are open.”
