Under Fire: Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz Sparks Outrage with Vague Comments at Rally
Tim Walz Sparks Controversy with Remarks at Pennsylvania Rally
Democratic vice presidential candidate Tim Walz faced backlash from conservative commentators on social media after making remarks at a rally in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, on Saturday.
During his speech, Walz was distracted by an audience member who appeared to need water while discussing gun violence. He paused to call the attention of the rally participants, saying, “We need water, can you check on him?”
Walz then continued, “It’s the same thing we did in Minnesota: implementing enhanced background checks and red flag laws, getting rid of guns, and making a difference. And I still have my gun to go pheasant hunting in a few weeks.”
About two minutes later, Walz turned his attention back to the presidential race, criticizing former President Trump and his running mate JD Vance. “People, let’s bring her home real quick. Look, Kamala Harris has made it clear that these people want to instill fear,” Walz said. “(Harris) simply said it doesn’t have to be this way. We can’t afford four more years of this.”
Walz’s mention of “four more years” was ambiguous, leading some to interpret it as a criticism of the Biden administration. Conservative commentators on social media quickly responded, with Rita Panahi writing, “Is that guy campaigning for Trump now?”
Donald Trump Jr. jokingly replied, “I’m with him/her.” The Trump War Room, an account run by Trump’s presidential campaign, wrote, “Walz finally tells the truth: ‘Kamala Harris cannot afford four more years in office.'”
Walz’s comments have sparked controversy, with some interpreting them as a criticism of the Biden administration. The Harris campaign has been reached out to for comment on Walz’s remarks.
