Understanding Hematuria and Urinary Pain: Causes and Symptoms

The symptom of blood mixed during urination is called “hematuria”. It seems that many middle-aged people have experienced hematuria or pain when urinating. In fact, when patients who arrive with urination problems are examined, urethritis, urinary tract infections, urinary stones and chronic prostatitis are often found. Among these, a representative example is urethritis.

Urethritis is an inflammatory disease that occurs in the urethra and is transmitted mainly through sexual intercourse. It is characterized by discharge, itching and pain during urination. If urethritis is left untreated, it can lead to complications. There is a possibility of cystitis and prostatitis, including epididymitis, which may become chronic. In addition to urethritis, you should also watch out for “urinary tract infections.” Urinary tract infections begin through intestinal bacteria, and representative diseases include cystitis and pyelonephritis. Symptoms of cystitis include pain when urinating, frequent urination, and urgency. Occasionally hematuria mixed with blood may appear. Pyelonephritis has symptoms similar to cystitis and can include fever and flank pain. Another disease to pay attention to are “urinary stones”. Urinary stones are literally a disease in which hard, stone-like stones form in the urinary tract. There are many cases where the pain is so severe that it cannot be resolved even with painkillers. Sometimes the pain spreads to the lower abdomen or genitals. In addition, various urinary disorders may occur such as residual urine, frequent urination, small urine and interrupted urine or, if the stones cause lesions, blood may leak during urination. This is why urinary pain and hematuria should never be overlooked. Painful urination and hematuria can be precursor symptoms of “prostatitis”. Prostatitis is such a common disease that about half of adult men suffer from it at least once. When prostatitis occurs, it is accompanied by pain when urinating, difficulty urinating, and pain in the perineum, anus, and testicles. Due to inflammation, blood may leak during urination or ejaculation. If the nerves and blood vessels become hypersensitive due to tension and congestion around the prostate, this can lead to sexual dysfunction such as decreased libido and erectile potency.

If the symptoms mentioned so far occur repeatedly or in combination, you should get tested quickly. It should be noted that medical institutions can diagnose and treat diseases through tests such as blood tests, urine tests, ultrasound, digital rectal tests, urinary flow tests and measurement of residual urine volume.
