Apple’s iCloud Activation Lock continues to serve as a critical security feature for iPhone and iPad users, automatically enabling when Find My is turned on to prevent unauthorized use if a device is lost or stolen.
The feature works by requiring the original Apple Account password or device passcode before anyone can turn off Find My, erase the device, or reactivate and use it, even after a remote erase.
When a device is activated or recovered, it contacts Apple’s servers to verify whether Activation Lock is enabled, with Apple securely storing the linked Apple Account on its activation servers.
