Earlier this year, on January 5, the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism hosted an international scientific conference centered on “Intangible Cultural Heritage and Protection and Promotion of Traditional Martial Arts.” The workshop served as a platform for experts and researchers to provide input, refining the documents supporting the nomination of Binh Dinh traditional martial arts to UNESCO’s list of intangible cultural heritages.

Historical records indicate that Binh Dinh’s traditional martial arts have deep roots. The art form began to take shape in 1471, during the reign of King Le Thanh Tong, when Vietnamese people settled in Hoi-Yeon County (now Binh Dinh province).
The 18th century marked a significant period of development for the martial arts,driven by the need for effective combat techniques. This era saw the fusion of various martial arts systems and the gathering of martial arts practitioners and officers, resulting in a refined system embodying the nation’s spirit.The martial arts have been preserved and developed since the Tay Son era.
Currently, Binh Dinh boasts a thriving martial arts community, including two international Grandmasters, 26 national Grandmasters, 12 luxury Grandmasters, 73 masters, 57 masters, and 415 coaches. There are 177 martial arts schools and clubs, with more then 12,000 students participating in regular training.
