United for Change: Sudan’s Liberation Movement and Justice and Equality Movement Unite in Historic Joint Statement
In a joint meeting of the Sudan Justice and Equality Movement and the Popular Movement – Democratic Revolutionary Current, both sides discussed the situation in Sudan due to the war and the fact that both sides of the conflict insist on continuing it, what whatever the cost, which brings the situation to the supporters of civil war, which started clearly from what is happening now in many areas. The Sudanese war caused a catastrophic humanitarian situation, including widespread human rights violations, including arbitrary killings, rape, looting, and destruction of state property and infrastructure in Sudanese areas, and joint artillery fire that resulted in the loss of a large number of civilian lives. Isolation and hate speech incites murder. After a transparent and extensive discussion, both sides agreed to the following:
1. The meeting agreed that rejecting war means fighting with the weapons used to fuel it. a spark that will grow and burn everyone, and no one will be saved from it, and it will lead to the fragmentation of Sudan. Everyone must confront those who use this rhetoric and stop it by all means and means to protect the unity of Sudan, people and land, and work to reinforce the principles of national unity and love of the motherland.
2. The meeting confirmed that the April 15 war truly expresses the deep national crisis in Sudan that began before independence and the country went into long civil wars, and for this war to be the last war, we must go to tackling the roots of this crisis, by rebuilding and establishing the Sudanese state on new foundations based on freedom and justice. Equality, democracy, federal rule, and equal citizenship are the basis of rights, constitutional duties, and the sovereignty of the people, which is the source of powers.
3. Both parties agreed that there is no military solution to this war, and called on both parties to stop the war immediately and unconditionally, stop all hostilities, work to resume negotiations, address the situation humanitarian, and committed to opening the crossings. to all the states of Sudan. The need to unite platforms and put pressure on both sides of the conflict through various initiatives and by regional and international actors to stop the war in order to reach an agreement for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire to protect civilians, stop killing and raping , and address their secrets to enable citizens to return to their homes, and the displaced, refugees and homeless people to their homes, and to uncover and blockade the elements that fuel the war and exposes the remnants and their rhetoric and justification calling for war and who demands its continuation even if it leads to the destruction of the Sudanese people and the demise of the state.
4. The meeting called on both sides of the conflict to strictly adhere to international humanitarian law and human rights law, and to cooperate with the fact-finding committee formed by the United Nations Human Rights Council, by bringing all those who committed a crime against our people to a fair and transparent trial that puts an end to the culture of being punished.
5. The meeting urged the civil and revolutionary forces to work hard to reach a political vision that will be implemented through a political process that includes different sectors of the Sudanese people, including the rural forces, youth, and women. Despite the tragedies and pains of war, it gives the Sudanese people who desire change and emancipation an opportunity to build a new civil, democratic state that respects Sudan’s diversity through a constitution that addresses the issue of religion. the need to provide a means of life in terms of security, food, housing, and treatment is an urgent matter and constitutes the greatest need for the Sudanese citizen The political forces that reject the war must civil society organizations is working to address international organizations active in the field of relief speeding up the relief of the Sudanese citizen in the inflamed areas, as any lack of action, delay, and failure to take this matter seriously will lead to disastrous consequences that will be difficult to correct.
7. The meeting confirmed that reforming, developing and strengthening alliances is a necessity determined by the current critical conditions. It is necessary to build a civil front that can exert pressure to stop and end the war, face the humanitarian situation, protect civilians, and create the atmosphere for peace, stability, and democratic civilian transition.
